About Me:
My name is Max Grundy. I am an artist based in Los Angeles. My pieces are based on the imagery found in old World War Two 40's and 50's atomic era propaganda posters. The subject matter of my pieces is fear based. I am fascinated with phobias and the influence the media has over society and their subsequent fears. The media can in some ways control society using fear. Your parter won't love you if your teeth aren't white, your kids will die if you don't disinfect using our cleaner, you will be poisoned by anthrax through the mail, or you will be eaten by a great white shark while playing at the beach, etc. Most of these fears are irrational and only develope because of what we see in movies, on television, advertisements, and even what hear on the "news". In the past couple of years I have merged my two great loves: art and hot rods. The result is a powerful combination of the darker elements of the 40's and 50's. I love hot rod culture and the industrial nature of war that so heavily influenced car builders of that era. I hope that, through my pieces, I can convey my respect to those first rebels in low-brow art and hot rod culture who helped pave the way for the rest of us.
